In our topic Me and My World, the children have been developing a deeper understanding of who they are and the people who are important to them. Through discussions, drawings and shared stories, they have enjoyed talking about their families, describing who lives in their homes and celebrating what makes their families special. We have explored how families can be the same in some ways and different in others, helping the children to appreciate and respect the diversity and range of cultures within our class community.
Our learning has also extended beyond the classroom as we explored our local area. During our walk around the community, the children observed familiar buildings such as the library, local shops, nurseries, places of worship and the park. They enjoyed sharing their experiences of these places and discussed the roles these places play in everyday life. This real-life experience helped to strengthen their understanding of the world around them, building their confidence as they begin to see themselves as valued members of both our school and the wider community.
